Hi Jodi - like you, I have had both the anterior and posterior hip replacement surgeries. I was wondering about your rehab for each. A year ago I had my left hip replaced using the anterior approach. I had a very fast recovery from the hip replacement with no pain to speak of after about 10 days, but unfortunately got a blood clot. Because of the blood clot I used a different team of doctors when I had my right hip replaced 4 weeks ago and they only used the traditional posterior approach. I am very surprised (and disappointed) in the amount of pain I am still having. I am hoping you will tell me this will pass and I will be pain free like my left hip is. I have a deep ache in the hip joint and some soft tissue pain. It's unfortunate that I didn't have this procedure first, then I wouldn't have expected to have no pain after surgery! Just wondering if your experience was similar to mine. Thanks, Sharon

Thank you very much Jodi! I was just diagnosed with AVN in my right hip and have confirmed with three doctors that my hip has collapsed. I scheduled the replacement with Dr. Herbert Huddleston at the Valley Knee and Hip Institute in Tarzana March 8th. He will be going the Anterior approach with titanium and ceramic implant. He said he uses an epidural during the surgery so not as much anesthesia is needed. He also injects a "cocktail" of pain medication, anti nausea medication and antibiotics before closing during surgery. I am trying to be brave but am scared. I live alone in a two story house (all bedrooms are upstairs). I also have two Golden Retrievers. One doctor told me my dogs could come home a few days after I get home from the hospital while another doctor said wait at least 3 weeks before they can be with me.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Well I grew up just south of the Wisconsin border. I lived out west in Socal and colorado since 1979. Then moved back here in 2005 to teach at UWM. No regrets I love being back in clean air and green forrests!
